Standard Deviation help?

I have two percentages, 34% and 36%, the mean of both of them is 35%. I know the formula for standard deviation is SD=[sum of(value-average)/number of val. - 1]^1/2. I can figure out what to sub in for the "average" and the "number of val." but I don't know what to sub in for "sum of" and "value".
