A doubt on the connection of potentiometer...?

I have an experiment on the potentiometer to compare the emf of 2 cells. I had taken E1 as the Lechlanche cell and E2 as the daniel cell. Accordingly when we take the balancing length of E1 i.e L1 it should be greater than the balancing length of E2 i.e L2. But instead L1 was lesser than L2. All my connections were right and galvanometer was showing opposite deflection. Even the opening nad closing of the key was done correctly. But my answer for the ratio of L1:L2 was too low comparing 2 the original value 1.33. Please tell me what has happened and how to correct it.
