How long does it take for the gum to heal after getting a wisdom tooth out?

i had to get them surgically removed and my gum has stitches, it's been 4 days now and it's still quite sore, i can't talk or open up my mouth, i'm getting worried, i haven't eaten in 4 days!!, should i go back to the dentist on Friday if it's still feeling bad?
